The NASPA Adult Learners & Students with Children Knowledge Community and National Center for Student Parent Programs at Endicott College are co-hosting a contest for a “Student Parent Ally” logo campaign. College and university faculty and staff will display the logo on stickers or decals on their office doors or other prominent locations to indicate that they are an on-campus ally and safe person for students who are raising children and are empathetic to their challenges & concerns.

This use is similar to the LBGT Ally and Safe Space campaigns to allow college and university faculty and staff across the country (or even potentially around the world) to indicate their awareness of the challenges of parenting and other non-traditional students on campus.

Even though over one-quarter of today’s undergraduate students are raising children, many college students who are adult learners and/or raising children feel invisible, isolated and alone on their campuses. They may fear that faculty and staff may not understand or be empathetic to their challenges and concerns. They may feel unsafe disclosing their parenting status out of fear of being stigmatized or treated unfairly because they have children. They may have trouble asking for help and support, even when they need it most. The logo design for this campaign will provide a way for these students to know that they are not alone and to find allies and supporters on campus.
