Purdue takes action to keep all data and computers secure, but weaknesses in personal security practices, may enable an attacker to bypass the security measures that are in place.

 

To keep your computer secure you should:

1.)  Install and run anti-virus software.

2.)  Apply system patches and updates daily.

3.)  Set your updates to run automatically. 

4.)  Use strong passwords

5.)  Turn on the firewall in XP.

Purdue provides "McAfee Anti-Virus" products to protect your computer from thousands of computer viruses.

McAfee releases new ".DAT" files regularly to provide protection against approximately 300 new viruses each month.  You can easily download those updated files.
