Confidential Paper Recycling Program

Since October 1999, Purdue Refuse and Recycling has operated the Confidential Document Destruction Service. Known informally as the "Blue Barrel Program," Purdue currently has over 400 secured blue, confidential recycling bins on campus which are used in a number of academic and business areas to properly dispose of University classified restricted and sensitive information.

Assignment of Authority and Responsibility for the Retention and Disposal of University Records Policy (V.B.3)

Federal and state laws, regulations of federal and state agencies, the requirements of accrediting and other external agencies, and prudent management practices govern the retention and disposal of University records. This policy assigns authority and responsibility for the retention and disposal of records to appropriate University officials for records maintained at all campuses and University locations.

Notify Officials of a Security Breach

To report a security incident involving paper media at the University, notify your supervisor and your area's Data Steward. If the incident involves the inappropriate disclosure of confidential information outside of the University, it must be reported to Purdue's Chief Information Security Officer.
