Join the College of Science as we celebrate groundbreaking research and exceptional achievements at the 2025 Research Awards. These prestigious awards recognize the contributions of our distinguished tenured faculty, including this year’s honorees for their impactful work advancing scientific discovery and innovation.
This years recipients are:
Professor Daisuke Kihara, Department of Biological Sciences and Department of Computer Science, receives recognition by the College of Science awards committee for his exceptional contributions in the field of protein bioinformatics, with particular emphasis on his impactful work applying new computational methods to understand biomolecular structures using cryo-EM.
Professor Tongcang Li, Department of Physics and Astronomy, receives recognition by the College of Science awards committee for his exceptional contributions in the field of quantum information science with particular emphasis on his impactful work on spin qubits in boron nitride and for his work in levitated optomechanics.
Associate Professor Michelle Thompson, Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences receives recognition by the College of Science awards committee for her exceptional contributions in the field of space weathering, with particular emphasis on her impactful work on sample return missions.
The event will feature 20-minute presentations from the awardees, introduced by their department heads.
A reception will follow, offering an opportunity to engage with the awardees and celebrate their contributions to science, our college, and the broader community.
