Thinking about studying abroad?
Explore the University of Canterbury
Building at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid
Founded in beautiful New Zealand in 1873, the University of Canterbury is now a modern autonomous university with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. The university is located on a modern, suburban campus that offers extensive sporting and recreational activities to complement its scholastic reputation. With an enrollment of 10,000 students, the university is host to more than 100 clubs and societies on campus, covering interests in the sporting, cultural, social, religious, and intellectual fields. Only 10 minutes away is Christchurch, a city of 300,000 people that is often called the Garden City of New Zealand because of its many parks, natural reserves, trees, and flowers. The city also has a reputation for being the most English city outside England, largely because of its traditional architecture and expansive parks. The Cathedral in the central square is its focal point.

Score Some Points:
Learn Beyond the Classroom

  • It is time to update your Learning Beyond the Classroom portfolio and score some points.  You have done lots of experiential learning, so take some time and submit reports on activities already completed.
  • May 2024 graduates: remember that you must have completed the program by the end of January 2024 in order to earn the LBC certificate.
  • If you have submitted a report, check and see if you have been asked to supply more information.  If you find that you have received “0” points on a report, click on your score and you will see what questions you have been asked to answer.  Resubmit your report with the required information so that your LBC points can be updated.

At our October monthly event, WISPers learned about Ethics in Genetics from Dr. Lynn Parrish, Clinical Assistant Professor of Philosophy, teaching Biomedical Ethics.  Our cohort heard about the history and guidelines developed in order to keep genetic testing ethical as well as became aware of current implications.
Mentors and mentees met as a pair with their leadership team member for expanded support.  Our social committee hosted a scavenger hunt for teams to answer clues and take selfies at the locations identified.  WISPers and other CoS women engaged with alumnae from EAPS, Geoscience and Physics regarding their careers and current climate.  MSP and WISP partnered for students to talk with an admission recruiter for the Mayo Clinic.  WISPers are involved!
