Space-themed snacks will be on hand during the festivities, and guests can take selfies and group photos with a life-size cutout of Drew.

Boilers Up!

The NASA Expedition 55 launch to the International Space Station from Kazakhstan will be the third space mission for Feustel (BS ’89, MS ’91), an alumnus of the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) in the Purdue College of Science. The mission’s flight engineer, Feustel will join Purdue alumnus, astronaut Scott Tingle, the expedition’s prime crew member, who launched to the International Space Station in December. Purdue alumnus Gary Horlacher is the expedition's flight director.

"What’s happening here is an attempt to put humans in space, permanently, forever," Feustel said of the mission. "This is the only place in the world, in the history of humans, where we’re trying to put the human race in space.” Feustel will remain on the International Space Station as commander for Expedition 56.

Geophysicist in Space

Feustel, unlike Purdue’s other 23 astronauts, came to NASA in 2000 as a geophysicist with a passion for earth science’s applications to space missions. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in solid earth sciences and a master’'s degree in geophysics from EAPS and received his PhD in seismology from Queen’s University in Canada. He has logged more than 29 days in space and over 42 hours in space walks.
