College of Science has busy Spring Fest

The College of Science sent away hundreds of youngsters wide-eyed and inspired thanks to several hands-on experiments and activities during Purdue’s annual Spring Fest.

The departments of Statistics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences were represented in a tent on Memorial Mall. Scientists of all ages learned how to make slime, lava lamps and “clouds” from household products. They also learned how to blow up a balloon by using chemical reactions within a water bottle. Other activities included fossil finding, an exercise on populations and the crunchy experiment of crushing an aluminum can by using cold water.

Beautiful and breezy weather made for ideal conditions for the event. The College of Science tent was hopping all afternoon on April 12.

In the lobby of Lilly Hall, Biological Sciences students led displays that allowed Spring Fest goers the opportunity to learn about and touch living sea urchins and horseshoe crabs.

Kids love the College of Science at Spring Fest!
