Global Science Partners have Halloween fun while doing community outreach

Members of the Global Science Partners student program indulged in some Halloween fun while conducting community outreach.

The College of Science program that mixes new students and more experienced ones and domestic with international students spent an hour playing games and passing out candy in the gymnasium of the Lafayette YMCA.

The volunteers engineered ring toss on an inflatable octopus, a beanbag throw game into a clown’s face, a gross-out pumpkin game where prizes could be found in the slimy “guts” and much more. The students greeted little Iron Men, princesses, fairies, Snow Whites and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or two.

For international students like Biological Sciences freshman Vika Chang, the event was their first Halloween experience.

“This is my first Halloween-ish party in America. It’s really an eye-opener,” Chang said. “This is definitely fun."

Like most Global Science Partners events, domestic students were happy to show their international peers the fun and history behind Halloween while helping the community.
