Purdue University’s Business Information and Analytics Center (BIAC), in collaboration with the Krannert School’s Leadership Communication Studio, recently hosted a two-stage case competition in IT/Analytics with Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
In the first stage, four teams from Purdue and four teams from Indiana University were selected based on internal competitions within the respective universities. All full-time undergraduate and master’s students could participate in teams of four, with at least one member of each team from Krannert or IU’s Kelley School.
The second and final competition was held on Friday, Nov. 4, on the West Lafayette campus, where the eight selected teams from the first stage competed in a joint Purdue-IU case competition. The teams had four hours to analyze a business case and submit their presentation slides, and then made presentations in half-hour time slots before five corporate executives who served as judges. The judges selected a Purdue team as the winner of the competition, with the second place going to an IU team and third place to another Purdue team. Each team received cash prizes of $2400, $1200, and $600, respectively.
This was the second major student event organized by the BIAC. The first was a data dive held last April in collaboration with Walmart, where teams of three to five students from a number of universities participated in analyzing large datasets to come up with business insights. The BIAC now plans to hold these two experiential learning events annually.
