Statistics and Optimization in Data Science Workshop
The Quant Methods Area, Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business and Krenicki Center for Business Analytics and Machine Learning, Purdue University are hosting a Statistics and Optimization in Data Science workshop on May 26-27, 2023
-
The workshop begins at 8:00 am on May 26 and ends at 4:45 pm with a panel session on May 27. The detailed schedule is to be announced. Add to Calendar!
-
The workshop will be held at Rawls Hall, Daniels School of Business, 100 S Grant St, West Lafayette, IN 47907. The campus maps and directions of the venue can be found here.
Poster Session - Call for Submission
-
The workshop features a poster competition for Ph.D. students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty who received Ph.D. degree in the past 2 years. The competition encourages submission of research results in a wide variety of domains in statistics and/or optimization motivated by critical and complex problems in data science.
-
The title, abstract, and the author’s information of poster submissions must be sent via email to BusDataScience@purdue.edu with “Poster Competition” included in the subject line. Abstract is limited to one page with font size 12 pt. Posters based on papers previously published, or accepted for publication are permitted. The deadline for submission is March 31 (Add to Calendar).
-
Due to the capacity of the workshop facility, we may not be able to accommodate all submissions. The poster competition committee will select a group of posters for the poster competition held on May 26. The selected posters will be announced by April 24. Cash prizes will be awarded to the best posters selected by a panel of researchers including some invited speakers
Video Research Workshop: Deep Learning Methods and Plenary Attention Analysis in Video Research
Date: March 10, 2023
Time: 2:30 PM (Eastern US)
Registration is required: https://bit.ly/VideoWorkshopCCSE
Join Oliver Rittman, University of Mannheim as he discusses the use of deep learning methods developed in the field of Computer Vision to measure attentiveness and study the listening behaviors of legislators who are attending parliamentary debates. Using video recordings from the Landtag Baden-Württemberg legislative assembly, Rittman trained a neural network architecture to classify identified legislators as attentive or inattentive toward the current speech to determine whether the speaker’s gender impacted the amount of attention given to the speaker by the legislators.
This free workshop is hosted by the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement (CCSE) and Advanced Methods at Purdue (AMAP).
10th International Purdue Symposium on Statistics
Demystifying Data Science via Statistics: Theory and Applications
JUNE 6TH - 9TH, 2023
Once every five years, statisticians, computational scientists, mathematicians, and interdisciplinary scholars from around the world gather on the Purdue University Campus for the International Purdue Symposium on Statistics (IPSS).
Founded in the late 1960s by Purdue statistics pioneer Professor Shanti Gupta, IPSS is celebrated as a collaborative learning space where faculty, graduate students, theorists and practitioners gather around a carefully chosen topic of interest in the field of statistics. For our tenth symposium, we gather to discuss recent advances in data sciences.
The symposium includes plenary speakers, seminar sessions and social activities to encourage networking and collaboration, preceded by a full day of workshops on June 6. This year’s symposium includes a special commemoration of 60 years of statistics at Purdue University.
Additional details including invited speakers, workshops, and session topics are available on the website. Early registration will open in March and run through April 1, 2023.
2023 Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture and Natural Resources
May 15-18, 2023 Purdue University West Lafayette, IN
About the Conference
The Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture and Natural Resources brings together statisticians and researchers from academia, industry, and government to discuss ideas and advancements in the application of statistics to solve agricultural and biological problems. This is a four-day conference consisting of a keynote speaker, a workshop, and a series of contributed papers and poster presentations.
This conference is unique in its interdisciplinary nature and also exposes students and developing scholars to new statistical research directly relevant to agriculture. We emphasize the application of statistics in solving real-life problems with agriculture and natural resources highlighted.
The conference recognizes the joint effort of the statistician and the subject-matter researcher, and we encourage participants to submit abstracts made jointly by the statistician and the researcher. Presentation of data sets and analyses which motivated the work shares equal importance with the development of the statistical theory. Papers on either new or innovative applications of existing statistical methodologies are appropriate for presentation at this conference.
The conference has a strong tradition of supporting the attendance and contributions of graduate students and early-career researchers. The professional yet relaxing atmosphere at the conference allows students and young scientists to connect with senior researchers in various fields and promotes mentorship and collaboration.
