Modeling Using Physics-Based & Data-Driven Approaches

Fundamental theoretical, numerical, and empirical models that relate to system behavior andperformance are developed. The following modeling activities have led to important insight in a range of engineering systems:

-Development of constitutive models for Kevlar fabric containing Silica nanoparticles for use in impact simulations

-Development of crackinitiation and growth models in turbine disks due to fretting along the disk-blade interface

-Derivation of three-dimensional elastic wave models in bounded media with anisotropicmaterial properties using irregular grids and rectangular cuboids to describescattering of waves from discontinuities

-Development of autoregressive and higher-order spectral models for detecting nonlinearity inresponse spectra due to mechanical damage
