Experimentation Design & Analysis for Characterization & Validation

By designing and conducting unique experiments, we are able to characterize how materials, components, and systems perform in their operational environments. Examples of research in this area include:

-In situ measurement of material parameters that govern the growth of cracks in composite materials using unique test apparatus

-Acquisition and processing of elastic response data with phased arrays for source identification in structural components with and without defects

-Measurement of forced response of structural components to combined thermo-acoustic-vibration loading using unique test apparatus

-Development of mutual information metrics for establishing thresholds in hypothesis testing used in mechanical fault detection

-Development of design of experiment methods for assessing effects on nondestructive evaluation due environmental sources of variability
