As part of its commitment to safeguarding research and complying with federal requirements, Purdue University has introduced a new mandatory research security training program for all clinical, research and tenured/tenure-track faculty as well as staff and students involved in research-related activities. This initiative reflects the university’s proactive approach to addressing emerging challenges in research security while fostering an environment of awareness and accountability.

The training module, which takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, was designed to address evolving federal regulations and research security challenges. Topics include international travel, insider threats, and reporting obligations to Purdue and federal sponsors. It replaces the four-hour National Science Foundation-developed research security training and meets new federal funding requirements.

Faculty and eligible principal investigators in Purdue Polytechnic Institute and the colleges of Agriculture, Engineering and Science are required to complete the training by Dec. 1; faculty and PIs in all other colleges must complete training by Dec. 31. Compliance will be tracked through the university’s research administration system. Purdue’s Research Security and Export Controls (RSEC) office is also offering additional resources and support for faculty who have questions or need further guidance.
