Marine, Mammals, & Sound Workshop

This workshop is to engage BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. and Dept. of Health, Safety, & Environment Sponsored by Center for the Environment, Herrick Laboratories, in cooperation with the Energy Center Goals: To identify Purdue research strengths that would enable: (a) Better noise prediction (b) Better processing of sounds to reflect impact on marine animals (c) Better monitoring tools to collect data to improve and validate models (d) Better design of tools and machines for oil exploration and production (e) More effective noise control and containment (f) Better prediction of mammalian movements To identify potential funding sources for above listed activities: Funding sources might include industrial partners such as BP, Shell, Exxon, joint industry programme (JIP), government agencies such as NOAA and MMS, and regional agencies like North Pacific Research Board and the North Slope Borough.
