Description

You are invited to participate in two events on Friday, September 20 associated with the Global Climate Strike:

Purdue Climate Strike Teach-In

9-11 am in WALC Plaza (or WALC 2051 if raining): 10 minute talks on climate change from faculty across campus.  Drop in, get a sticker, show your concern about climate change.

(Please contact me (apawley@purdue.edu) if you would like to contribute a 10 min slot, and we’ll try to fit you in.)

Group travel to Lafayette City Hall for 12-1 sit-in (more info here)

Climate change panel discussion

2:30-4 pm in the Dean’s Auditorium in Pfendler Hall

Panelists (alphabetically): Profs. Otto Doering (Agricultural Economics), Jeff Dukes (FNR, Director of the Purdue Climate Change Research Center), Jane Frankenberger (ABE), Erin Hennes (Psychology), Jiqin Ni (ABE), Marshall Porterfield (ABE), and Linda Prokopy (FNR).  Moderated by Camila Garcia Jange (grad student in ABE) and Prof. Sara McMillan (ABE/EEE).

We are also convening a Purdue-affiliated group to attend the Lafayette City Hall sit-in from 12-1 pm, and to meet up with the Westside student-led march at 1:45 pm on Sept 27 at the West Lafayette Public Library (more info here).

Ways you can help:

  • attend any of the Sept 20 teach-in, demonstration, or panel discussion events, or attend the Westside march on Sept 27
  • encourage your students to attend the teach-in, demonstration or panel discussion (here is a slide you can use in your decks)
  • consider excusing your students from class if they miss class due to participating in Climate Strike events
  • post flyers about the events on your door (see one here or the one attached)
  • if you’d like to strike but don’t feel you can, post a sign saying so (here’s an example).
  • Follow the Purdue Climate Strike group on social media: FacebookTwitter, and Instagram
  • Contact me if you’d like to help organize a senate resolution, grant proposal on climate change, or future climate strikes at Purdue
  • Share this information with your graduate students, undergraduates, postdocs, staff, and student organizations.
