Over the last two years, the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Health and Human Sciences have collaborated on an ambitious faculty cluster hiring initiative to recruit cutting-edge methodologists in the behavioral, health, and social sciences. The objectives in this cluster are to expand research capacities within the two colleges and beyond, foster innovative cross-disciplinary work on pressing challenges, enhance training and mentoring by offering a wide range of seminars and workshops on state-of-the-art analytical techniques, and contribute to the campus-wide “Integrative Data Science” project. Taken together, these activities comprise the HHS & CLA “Advanced Methods at Purdue” (AMAP) initiative.

The AMAP symposium on October 29-30, 2018, will bring together a diverse group of methodologists to critique the practice of research in the behavioral, health, and social sciences – the standards for making solid inferences about causes and effects, the relationship between theory and methodology, and the virtues of both quantitative and qualitative investigations.

On the evening of Monday, October 29, a capstone roundtable discussion will consider the topic of “fakery” in political campaigning and elections -- and how we might counteract it. Roundtable discussion is open to the campus community and the public.  It will be in Fowler Hall in Stewart Center on the Purdue campus at 7:30 pm, October 29.
