Description

John Ostergren, Director of Environment, Health and Safety at 3M

3M uses science every day to improve lives and help solve society’s toughest challenges – from clean air and clean water, to advanced health care and food safety. We recognize the unique and inspiring opportunity we have: to grow our enterprise while making the world stronger, safer, and healthier. Our commitment to sustainability is rooted in and nurtured by our drive to continually improve our own operations, and has since before the term was even used. Since its visionary launch in 1975, Pollution Prevention Pays (3P) has empowered 3Mers to find creative ways to reduce environmental impacts and increase manufacturing efficiency. This initiative continues today, with 15,000 projects that have prevented two million tons of air, water, and waste pollution.3P encourages sales professionals, office staff, executives, operators, researchers and engineers alike to find and fix sustainability challenges within 3M, and that collective mindset influences our drive to address global sustainability challenges with the same innovative, science-based approach.Building on decades of setting and meeting manufacturing environmental targets by engaged 3Mers creating new sustainability solutions, 3M’s Sustainability Goals aim to amplify our impact by applying our sustainability culture and know-how as much outside the company as within.
