PI4D Distinguished Lecture - Dr. John Harty

Description

Dr. John Harty of the University of Iowa's Department of Microbiology and Immunology department will be visiting and giving a seminar titled "Immunity to Liver-Stage Malaria". 

 

Dr. Harty received both his B.S and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.  After completing his Ph.D., he was a postdoctoral fellow at Scripps Clinic and Research foundation in La Jolla, California.  From California he moved north to the be a Postdoctoral Associate at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of Washington, in Seattle.  He started his tenure track at the University of Iowa in the Department of Microbiology.  He has moved up the ranks and now Dr. Harty, is the Mark Stinski Chair in Microbial Immunology at the University of Iowa College of Medicine.  His lab focuses on understanding of the T cell response.  A few of the current projects in his lab are Basic immunology and imaging of CD8 T cell immunity to liver-stage malaria and CD4 T cell and antibody mediated immunity to blood-stage malaria.
