Description

Experimental Neurology

The main research activities are devoted to characterize the molecular and biochemical mechanisms involved in the genesis and propagation of seizures in epilepsy with the aim of finding novel targets to develop new drugs or therapeutic strategies more effective and with limited side-effects. We use experimental models of seizures and epileptogenesis in rodents with particular attention to seizures involving in the limbic system and associated to neurodegeneration of specific neuronal populations. This type of seizures in humans are often refractory to classical anticonvulsant drugs.
