NSF proposals submitted or due on or after Oct. 1 will require an approved format for biographical sketches and current/pending support documents.

Effective for proposals submitted or due on or after Oct. 1, 2020, the National Science Foundation will require the use of an approved format for both the biographical sketch and the current and pending support documents.

NSF has partnered with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to implement the SciENcv: Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae as one of the NSF-approved formats for preparation of both documents. NSF has also released a fillable pdf as the other approved format. No other formats will be accepted by NSF.

Additionally, NSF requires the reporting of In-Kind Contributions (such as office/laboratory space, equipment, supplies, employees, students) on the Current and Pending Support document.  This information is not available to SPS and must be provided by the investigator.

NSF Resources:  NSF has developed websites with additional information for the preparation of the biographical sketch and current and pending support.

Pre-Award Support:  Pre-Award will continue to provide the Excel document with a list of all current awards and pending proposals as identifiable in the SPS system to assist investigators with compiling the information.  Investigators will be responsible for completing their current and pending in one of the approved formats.

SciENcv Recommended:  SPS recommends investigators utilize SciENcv for the preparation of their biographical sketch and current and pending support document due to the flexibility this system provides in formatting and its availability for use and ease of modification for future submissions.  The NSF fillable pdf is available as an alternative, but is not recommended due to formatting limitations. The NSF fillable pdf should be considered for one-time use only.

Purdue University Libraries staff are available to assist investigators with creating their SciENcv accounts if needed.  Libraries staff can be contacted at researchdata@purdue.edu.

Critical Information:  Fastlane/Research.gov will not accept a current and pending document that is not in an approved format.  Pre-Award will be stopped from submitting by the system if one of these documents is not in an approved format.  If the fillable pdf is used, it must not be altered by printing to pdf as this will take it out of the approved format.  Investigators are encouraged to submit documents to Pre-Award early to avoid a missed submission.
