In July, faculty members Stacey Connaughton, William Crossley, Eckhard Groll and Preeti Sivasankar will take on new leadership roles at the university.
Stacey Connaughton, associate professor in the Brian Lamb School of Communication and director of the Purdue Peace Project, has been named director of Discovery Park’s Purdue Policy Research Institute (PPRI), effective July 1. PPRI is a research community comprised of faculty, students, and staff focused on producing interdisciplinary, policy-relevant research on global grand challenges, especially in areas of strategic focus for Discovery Park.
William A. Crossley has been named head of Purdue’s School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He will assume the position of J. William Uhrig and Anastasia Vournas Head of Aeronautics and Astronautics on July 20, the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, announced Mung Chiang, the John A. Edwardson Dean of Engineering. Currently, Crossley is a professor in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and director for Partnership to Enhance General Aviation Safety, Accessibility and Sustainability (PEGASAS), the Federal Aviation Administration Center of Excellence for General Aviation.
The Purdue College of Engineering has selected a seasoned leader to be its new head of the School of Mechanical Engineering. On July 1, Eckhard A. Groll will become the William E. and Florence E. Perry Head of Mechanical Engineering. Currently, Groll serves as associate dean for undergraduate and graduate education for the College of Engineering and the Reilly Professor of Mechanical Engineering. His successor as associate dean will be announced at a later date.
Preeti M. Sivasankar will be the new head of the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. The appointment is effective July 1. Sivasankar has served as associate head of SLHS since 2017, and was interim head of SLHS during fall 2018. The department is part of the College of Health and Human Sciences. Sivasankar also holds courtesy appointments in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Department of Otolaryngology. Her research focuses on voice production and laryngeal physiology and is funded by the National Institutes of Health. Read more.
