You may write a request to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/legalcounsel\/contact\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office of Legal Counsel<\/a> that explains which records you want to review. Legal Counsel will reach out to the records manager to arrange access and notify you when and where the records can be reviewed.<\/p>\n\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"purdue-accordion-wrap  purdue-accordion-wrap--small\">\n    <div class=\"section has-gray-background has-padding-top-none has-padding-bottom-none has-no-sidepadding\">\n        <div class=\"container\">\n            <div class=\"purdue-accordion has-no-bottomborder\">\n                <h3 class=\"accordion__heading purdue-accordion__title  purdue-accordion__title--small\" id=\"title-395232bb-cc1c-4dca-a62c-85161232b289\">\n                    <button aria-controls=\"content-395232bb-cc1c-4dca-a62c-85161232b289\" aria-expanded=\"false\">The right to request a change to your education records<\/button>\n                <\/h3>\n                <div class=\"accordion__content purdue-accordion__content\" id=\"content-395232bb-cc1c-4dca-a62c-85161232b289\" hidden aria-hidden=\n                \"true\">\n                    \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have the right to request changes to your education records that you believe are inaccurate, misleading or in violation of your rights under FERPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To request a change to your record<\/strong>, submit in writing to the records manager referred to you by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/legalcounsel\/contact\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office of Legal Counsel<\/a>, clearly stating the part of your record you would like to change and why it should be changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university will decide within a reasonable amount of time after receiving the request whether to adjust the record as requested. If the university decides not to adjust the record, a written notification will be provided of the decision, including your right to a hearing regarding the request and your right to insert in your record a written statement commenting on the information.<\/p>\n\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"purdue-accordion-wrap  purdue-accordion-wrap--small\">\n    <div class=\"section has-gray-background has-padding-top-none has-padding-bottom-none has-no-sidepadding\">\n        <div class=\"container\">\n            <div class=\"purdue-accordion has-no-bottomborder\">\n                <h3 class=\"accordion__heading purdue-accordion__title  purdue-accordion__title--small\" id=\"title-37a04d95-893c-44d4-9795-77e582e2c258\">\n                    <button aria-controls=\"content-37a04d95-893c-44d4-9795-77e582e2c258\" aria-expanded=\"false\">The right to provide written consent before information identifying you is shared<\/button>\n                <\/h3>\n                <div class=\"accordion__content purdue-accordion__content\" id=\"content-37a04d95-893c-44d4-9795-77e582e2c258\" hidden aria-hidden=\n                \"true\">\n                    \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have the right to require written consent before the university shares personally identifiable information from your education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university may share education records without your consent when allowed by FERPA. This includes university officials whom the university has determined to have legitimate educational interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>University officials include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6336c543e6e237804f67e0aa5d9ac258\">Purdue University employees in administrative, supervisory, academic, research, clerical or support staff (such as law enforcement, attorneys, counselors and health staff)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-fe60561fcea702ef13953384793ed0a7\">Board of Trustees members<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-528f186059ce3a71a2f20ac572333c24\">Official university committee members, including students (such as disciplinary or grievance committee)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0c3d8fb7d6387eea6b84af2184645c04\">Volunteers, contractors or consultants outside of Purdue University who perform a service or role in place of a university employee, under the direct control of the university with respect to the use and maintenance of education records (such as attorneys, auditors, collection agents, or students volunteering to assist university officials and are obligated to not share personal identifying information from any education record without prior written consent)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Legitimate educational interests include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e77580271164ac0fd291e58340f03165\">\n<li>Performing a task or engaging in an activity related to regular duties or professional responsibilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A student\u2019s education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discipline of a student<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A service to or benefit for a student<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In support of student success<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Campus safety and security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"purdue-accordion-wrap  purdue-accordion-wrap--small\">\n    <div class=\"section has-gray-background has-padding-top-none has-no-sidepadding\">\n        <div class=\"container\">\n            <div class=\"purdue-accordion\">\n                <h3 class=\"accordion__heading purdue-accordion__title  purdue-accordion__title--small\" id=\"title-57bb5563-25ec-4e07-a298-625411312282\">\n                    <button aria-controls=\"content-57bb5563-25ec-4e07-a298-625411312282\" aria-expanded=\"false\">The right to file a complaint<\/button>\n                <\/h3>\n                <div class=\"accordion__content purdue-accordion__content\" id=\"content-57bb5563-25ec-4e07-a298-625411312282\" hidden aria-hidden=\n                \"true\">\n                    \n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by Purdue University to comply with FERPA requirements. Complaints should be submitted to the Student Privacy Policy Office. Submit the completed form by email at <a href=\"mailto:FERPA.Complaints@ed.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FERPA.Complaints@ed.gov<\/a> or mail to the address below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>U.S. Department of Education<\/strong><br>Student Privacy Policy Office<br>400 Maryland Avenue, SW<br>Washington, DC 20202-8520<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div  id=\"button-test\" class=\"purdue-home-buttons purdue-home-buttons--left \">\n    <div class=\"purdue-home-button-list\">\n                    <div class=\"\"><a class=\"purdue-home-button \" href=\"https:\/\/studentprivacy.ed.gov\/file-a-complaint\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Learn about filing a complaint (Opens in a new tab)\">Learn about filing a complaint<\/a><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div  class=\"section \">\n    <div class=\"container\">\n                \n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns page-layout-columns columns is-multiline is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column column is-full-tablet page-layout-main is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 id=\"consent-exceptions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">FERPA Exceptions to Written Consent Requirement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FERPA allows the university to share education records without your consent under certain conditions detailed in \u00a799.31 of the FERPA regulations. With the exception of disclosures to university officials, certain judicial orders or lawfully issued subpoenas, directory information and disclosures made directly to you (the student), as detailed in \u00a799.32 of the FERPA regulations, requires the university to keep a record of the disclosure. You have the right to review disclosure logs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university may share personal identifiable information from education records without written consent:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To other university officials whom the university has determined to have legitimate educational interests, as described above. This includes contractors, consultants, volunteers or other parties to whom the university has outsourced institutional services or roles, provided that certain conditions are met. (\u00a799.31(a)(1))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To officials of another university where the student seeks to enroll or is already enrolled, if it\u2019s related to the student\u2019s enrollment or transfer, subject to the requirements of \u00a799.34. (\u00a799.31(a)(2))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To authorized representatives of the U.S. Comptroller General, the U.S. Attorney General, the U.S. Secretary of Education, or state and local educational authorities, such as a state agency responsible for supervising the university\u2019s state-supported education programs.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disclosures under this provision may be made, subject to the requirements of \u00a799.35, in connection with an audit or evaluation of federal- or state-supported education programs, or for the enforcement of or compliance with federal legal requirements that relate to those programs. These entities may make further disclosures of personal identifiable information to outside entities designated by them as authorized representatives to conduct any audit, evaluation or enforcement or compliance activity on their behalf. (\u00a7\u00a799.31(a)(3) and 99.35)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For financial aid in which the student has applied or received, if it is needed to determine eligibility, amount of the aid, or terms and conditions&nbsp;of the aid. (\u00a799.31(a)(4))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To state and local officials or authorities when authorized by state statute in certain cases.\u202f(\u00a799.31(a)(5))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To organizations conducting studies for, or on behalf of, the university. This can be for predictive tests, to administer student aid programs or improve instruction.\u202f(\u00a799.31(a)(6))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To accrediting organizations to carry out their functions. (\u00a799.31(a)(7))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To parents, if the student is a dependent for IRS personal taxes. (\u00a799.31(a)(8))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena. (\u00a799.31(a)(9))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To appropriate officials in connection with a health or safety emergency, subject to \u00a799.36.\u202f(\u00a799.31(a)(10))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When it\u2019s information the university has designated as \u201cdirectory information\u201d under \u00a799.37 (see section on Requests to Restrict Directory Information). (\u00a799.31(a)(11))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To a victim of an alleged perpetrator of a violent crime or a non-forcible sex offense, subject to the requirements of \u00a799.39.\u202fThe disclosure may only include the final results of the disciplinary proceeding with respect to that alleged crime or offense, regardless of the finding. (\u00a799.31(a)(13))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To the general public, the final results of a disciplinary proceeding, subject to the requirements of \u00a799.39, if the university determines the student is an alleged perpetrator of a crime of violence or non-forcible sex offense and the student has committed a violation of the university\u2019s rules or policies with respect to the allegation made against him\/her\/them. (\u00a799.31(a)(14))<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To parents regarding the violation of any federal, state or local law, or of any rule or policy of the university, governing the use or possession of alcohol or a controlled substance if the university determines a disciplinary violation was committed and the student is under the age of 21.
