Cycling Series

CYCLING

Whether you are an avid cyclist or just beginning, this class will provide you with a high-intensity cardiovascular workout. Ride around the world in all types of terrain, while testing your determination, focus, and physical fitness. Basic bike set-up and position will be reviewed for all participants.  This class is open to 28 participants.

HEART CYCLING

Heart rate is the window into how the body is responding to the stress of each effort, each ride, and our overall training and adaptation. Learn the science behind cardiovascular training and how to make your indoor cycling class more meaningful and beneficial. Heart Cycling incorporates biofeedback from heart rate monitors to work in and benefit from heart zones, customized for each participant using results from a threshold test, conducted in class with your instructor. In addition to heart rate zones, your instructor will use threshold percentages and rate of perceived exertion (RPE) when coaching this class.  This class is open to 28 participants.

*A Polar T31 Coded Chest Transmitter and Elastic Strap Heart Rate Monitor (costa roughly $45) is recommended for this class and also sold at the CoRec Equipment Sales and Rental desk.

Dance Series

BALLET

This all-level adult ballet class is designed to instill participants with greater awareness of their bodies, an understanding of basic alignment, and knowledge of the art of dance and structured choreography. The class emphasizes the idea of ballet as a practice, as opposed to a performance. The class will begin with a simple barre warm up, followed by center work, and ends with flexibility exercises. Attire should be comfortable and form fitting so the instructor can see the lines of the body. Ballet shoes are suggested. This class is open to 35 participants.

BARRE

Barre is a total body sculpting workout based on ballet barre exercises.  This class is designed to balance, strengthen and tone the entire body.  Each class will include several highly effective sequences of toning and resistance exercises, with an emphasis on the core, arms, hips and thighs. Through the use of the ballet barre, light weights and various props, students will begin with small movements and progress to larger, more complex movements. This technique protects your joints as it does not involve any bouncing or jumping. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to develop long, lean muscles without bulk. This class is open to 12 participants.

Martial Arts Series

KICKBOXING LEVEL I

Kickboxing Level I is an introductory martial arts course that centers on mastering authentic kickboxing techniques and improving fitness. This full-body workout challenges all major muscle groups while improving aerobic capacity, muscular strength, balance, decreasing stress, improving focus and boosting confidence. Throughout the course, you will learn basic hand wrapping techniques, proper stance and footwork, the classic jab, cross, hook and uppercut punches, kicks and blocks with the elbow and knee. Students will also learn traditional drills and combinations to effectively strike pads in offensive and defensive situations and ultimately create punch and kick combinations independently. Fitness tests will be conducted at the beginning and end of the course, allowing you to see progress in your kickboxing and fitness abilities.  Boxing gloves, punching mitts and Muay Thai pads are used regularly in class. Equipment is provided. This class is open to 20 participants.

KICKBOXING LEVEL II

Building from Kickboxing Level I, this class increases the overall intensity and speed of the workout. This class is for those who have prior kickboxing experience or have taken Kickboxing Level I.  The class will move at a pace designed to challenge the intermediate/advanced kickboxing student both physically and mentally. Fitness tests will be conducted at the beginning and end of the course, allowing you to see progress in your kickboxing and fitness abilities. Boxing gloves, punching mitts and Muay Thai pads are used regularly in class. Equipment is provided.  This class is open to 20 participants.

Pilates Series

PILATES MAT LEVEL I

Based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates, this class is designed to isolate and strengthen your core through integrated, efficient and graceful movement. This traditional mat class will develop long, lean muscles while increasing strength, flexibility, balance and postural improvements. Pilate’s mats, rings, bands, balls and BOSUs are used regularly in class. Equipment is provided. This class is open to 35 participants.

Building from Pilates Level I, this class increases the overall intensity and speed of the workout. FIT BODY BOOTCAMP

Take your fitness routine to the next level with a constantly varied, high intensity, total body workout.  Our Personal Training staff will create workouts that change weekly, and are designed for beginners, as well as seasoned fitness enthusiasts.  Work together to create camaraderie, build cardiovascular and muscular endurance, have fun and get fit!  Class will be held at various locations across campus including: track and field, intramural fields, slater hill, and various trails. The CoRec Fitness Mezzanine will be used on inclement weather days.  This class is open to 20 participants.

TOTOL BODY CIRCUIT TRAINING

Get more done in less time with this unique circuit style workout utilizing our state-of-the-art Kinesis® One and Kinesis® Stations.  This class will combine functional exercises on the stations to challenge your major muscle groups along with cardio interval bursts with shorter rest periods to keep your heart rate up. The seamless transition between exercises makes it one of the most effective styles of training.  This class is open to 20 participants.

Yoga Series

POWER YOGA LEVEL I

Power Yoga is an energetic style of yoga includes specific sequences designed to build strength and stamina while disciplining the mind. Classes focus on body weight bearing exercises, core strength and balance. This class has its roots in Iyengar and Ashtanga so it not only focuses on your alignment, but also the fluidity from one pose to the next.  This level one course is designed for those new to the practice of Power Yoga as well as the seasoned practitioner. The basics and fundamentals of Power Yoga poses are introduced. Learn the process of proper alignment in the poses, breathing techniques, the use of props in your practice and build confidence in your yoga postures. This class is open to 35 participants.

RESTORATIVE YOGA

Taking time out each day to relax and renew is essential to living well. Restorative Yoga is a gentle, nurturing, therapeutic style of yoga using props for comfort, stability and balance to ease into various yoga poses. The poses, held comfortably for a prolonged period of time, help you unwind, relax and renew the mind and body. Various breathing, relaxation and meditation techniques are also a part of this class. YOGA FLOW LEVEL I

Yoga Flow, also referred to as Vinyasa Yoga or just Flow, is a practice of yoga in which movement is synchronized to the breath. Yoga Flow movements are smoothly flowing and almost dance-like as poses flow from one into the next. This form of yoga produces an internal heat that will challenge aerobic endurance, increase flexibility, and build overall strength. Family Yoga includes postures for the parent and child alike; including age and intensity level variations to accommodate all participants and make sure everyone has fun.
