Professional Interests & Specializations:

Before specializing in Internal Medicine, I spent 23 years as a Labor and Delivery Nurse in the Lafayette area.  Upon completing my Master’s in Nursing, I felt a “pulling” to work in Internal Medicine.

Length of time at PUSH:

I began working at PUSH in August 2016.  Prior to this position, I worked in Internal Medicine at IU Health Arnett, and also at a rural nursing clinic owned and operated by Purdue University – The Family Health Clinic of Carroll County – in Delphi IN.

Why do you like working at PUSH?

I love working at PUSH because I love this age population. There is never a dull moment working with the students. They are very inquisitive and have a desire to attain/maintain good health. They are generally very receptive to my care and advice.

What is your philosophy of care?

I love connecting with the students to help them recover from their illness and stay healthy. At your initial appointment, I will ask you a little about yourself, where you are from and what you are studying, what you enjoy doing in your free time.  I will encourage you to participate in your care: what do you think is wrong? We will then discuss treatment options and plan of care.  I am flexible with treatments, but will not necessarily give you a medicine just because you think you need it.  I believe antibiotics are over prescribed and that the majority of colds, cough and sinus problems are viral. I believe our bodies are miraculous, and given the chance, we can recover from most illnesses without aggressive treatments.

I also enjoy counseling you in regards to risky behaviors.  I will be your provider, but also a “mother figure,” helping you to recognize that some behaviors can have lifetime negative consequences. I will care for you as my patient, but also care for you as if you were my child, giving you the care and respect I would want my child to receive.  I realize most students are away from home for the first time, and I love to give reassurance and an occasional hug.

What do you like to do when you’re not at PUSH?

In my spare time, I love spending time with my family. My husband, Mike, and I have three children, a son and two daughters.  I also have a fur baby - Levi, my 3-year-old Cockapoo.  I enjoy cooking and gardening. I enjoy exercising, and I am up most mornings at 5:30 to use my elliptical.  I love Christian Music and spending quiet devotional time.  I enjoy reading Max Lucado books. I also teach a prenatal class every other month at Life Care/Matrix.
