Outstanding Research

As one of the first departments of its kind when established eight decades ago, Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences has been a pioneer in basic and translational research. A unique strength of the Department’s research portfolio is an emphasis upon underlying processes, not defined by diagnoses or treatment. Consequently, faculty are especially interdisciplinary including engineers, linguists, psychologists, and neuroscientists. Most faculty receive funding by NIH with additional support from NSF, foundations, and corporations.
