2022 Conference Competition Announcement

The Office of the Provost and the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships sponsor a Conference Competition for a scholarly conference series to bring to campus top-level scholars, researchers, and lecturers.  Proposals are welcome from units, departments, schools, or colleges.

This program was developed to further enhance the reach and impact of Purdue, and to highlight the efforts of our talented faculty as they conduct world-changing research, pursue innovative teaching scholarship, and contribute to the scholarship of engagement.

Grants up to $25,000 each may be awarded to proposals based on the quality and effectiveness of the proposed activities.  Budgets may include hospitality charges, but may not include alcohol.  If a proposed or planned conference already has funding, please specify how much funding has been provided, the source of such funding, and discuss how additional funding would improve the quality or expand the reach of the conference.  Past winning proposals may be found here.

The conference(s) may be scheduled on campus beginning summer 2022 and may take place through August 2023.  Interdisciplinary proposals that facilitate cross-disciplinary faculty interactions are encouraged.  Awards will be granted to winning proposals in support of conference expenses (e.g., invited speakers as well as conference logistics) that definitively validate:

  • Clarity of purpose(s) for and significance of the conference
  • Likelihood to attract leading scholars from other universities, and to attract keynote speakers of international/national reputation
  • Value to Purdue: linkage to Purdue’s mission, likelihood to showcase Purdue expertise; ability to attract a critical mass of Purdue scholars and students as participants
  • Linkage to at least one professional association, if possible; possibility of attracting extramural support
  • Value to external audiences and the media (e.g., newsworthiness or pioneering work)
  • Proposed post-event impacts (e.g., future partnerships, publications, follow-up events)
  • Proposals should indicate a clear title, lead contact person, and brief budget.

Proposals must be limited to five, double-spaced pages, 12-point Times New Roman font, with one-inch margins, and should be sent via e-mail to Susan Grasham, Office of the Provost, at sgrasham@purdue.edu.

The deadline for this round of proposals is April.
