Across Our Campus

Newly restructured IDA+A adds value quickly

The recently realigned and renamed Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment office or IDA+A (formerly the Office of Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness - OIRAE) is already making significant contributions toward addressing the data needs and priorities of Purdue’s academic enterprise. The unit, which now reports to Associate Provost Cherise Hall, is helping to gather and assess data pivotal to the Road Map for Transformative Undergraduate Education.

“Soon after our restructure, we began to partner with the Division of Diversity and Inclusion to assess data that will identify gaps, trends, and successes that will help inform and guide the Maximizing Student Potential initiative – a part of the Road Map,” said Hall. “We are pleased to be able to jump in quickly and be a part of moving these initiatives forward.”

Hall says IDA+A also took a leading role in the preparation for the university’s 10-year reaccreditation process this fall and continues to broaden its collaborative relationships across campus.

In December 2018, the office began reporting to the Office of the Provost. With the change in reporting structure, the office realigned existing staff, redefined its mission and created the new name that better reflects the service it provides to the campus community.

Hall says the internal goals of the staff realignment were to create a leadership team to guide and connect all five areas of the unit and create career path opportunities. The functional areas of IDA+A include:

  • Assessment
  • Analytics
  • Data Science
  • Data Governance
  • Data Engineering

"The mission of Institutional Data Analytics +  Assessment is to perform research, statistical and predictive analysis for campus leaders and decision makers in support of evidence-based planning, evaluation, and assessment.  We participate in ensuring well-defined, quality data is available. As part of the Provost’s Office, we directly support the academic enterprise as well as the campus at-large."

“I’m excited to bring the capabilities of  IDA+A into the Provost’s Office,” said Jay Akridge, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity. “The academic enterprise specifically and the campus broadly will benefit greatly from their expertise as we make the data-informed decisions needed to move our university forward.”

IDA+A’s service portfolio includes:  Accreditation, Data Digest, Management Dashboards, Tracking of Rankings, Federal and State Reporting, Data Science, SERU and COACHE surveys, Data Governance, and more.
