The Office of the Provost, in partnership with the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence, recently honored the 2022 Distinguished Women Scholars at a reception on the West Lafayette campus. The recognition honors alumnae who earned a Purdue graduate degree and have made significant scholarly contributions to their respective academic communities.
The six honorees from the colleges of Agriculture, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Science, and Veterinary Medicine are:
Elena Ianchovichina
Elena Ianchovichina, who earned her Ph.D. in agricultural economics in 1998 from the Department of Agricultural Economics. She is deputy chief economist, Latin America and the Caribbean, at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
Delita Martin
Delita Martin, who earned her MFA degree in studio art: printmaking, drawing, mixed media, installation in 2009 from what is now the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance. She is founder of Black Box Press Foundation and owner of Black Box Press Studio, both in Huffman, Texas.
Sulma Mohammed
Sulma Mohammed, who earned her Ph.D. in microbiology in 1991 from the Department of Biological Sciences. She is a professor in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology at Purdue.
Susan Rodger
Susan Rodger, who earned her Ph.D. in computer science in 1989 from the Department of Computer Science. She is a professor of practice in the Computer Science Department at Duke University.
Senay Simsek
Senay Simsek, who earned her Ph.D. in food science in 2006 from the Department of Food Science. She is professor and head of the Department of Food Science at Purdue.
Lesley Sneed
Lesley Sneed, who earned her Ph.D. in civil engineering in 2007 from the School of Civil Engineering. She is a professor in the Department of Civil, Materials, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
