Purdue student wins top statewide engagement award

Nathan Rowland Miller, a Purdue senior majoring in Industrial Engineering, has been recognized as the winner of the Richard J. Wood Student Community Commitment Award by the Indiana Campus Compact. The Wood Award is the highest honor a college student can receive for their engagement work in the state of Indiana.

Miller, the 2020-2021 Student Director of the ACE Campus Food Pantry, was nominated for his leadership and tireless work in the area of food insecurity.

The Indiana Campus Compact is a nonprofit organization that convenes, supports, and promotes Indiana institutions of higher education leveraging their knowledge, resources, and power for the public good. The organization believes that service-learning and community engagement is a forward thinking and effective strategy for graduating engaged citizens with 21st century workplace skills.

The Wood Student Community Commitment Award was created in 1996 in honor of Dr. Richard J. Wood who served as the founding chairperson of Indiana Campus Compact’s Board of Presidents from 1992 to 1996. This award continues Dr. Wood’s legacy as an advocate of students as stewards to the community, and recognize students at Indiana Campus Compact partner institutions who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community engagement.
