Supportive resources available for faculty
The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence is offering resources designed to help faculty navigate their teaching and research activities during the challenges of COVID-19 and the ongoing protests in the wake of the death of George Floyd.
Support circle for faculty
This informal and flexible support circle is designed to connect faculty, build ties, and encourage sharing of experiences and ideas for coping in these times. It is about both resilience and vulnerability. This is not intended to replace formal counseling services, other mental health services, or other formal resources at Purdue. Integral to the success of faculty is institutional responsibility to provide care and support during these challenging times. The circle will complement the Coaching and Resource Network (CRN) started in 2019.

Workshop: How Can Professors Practice Resilience with Vulnerability in the Academic Context?
- Dr. Tanya Williams, Curriculum Specialist, LeaderShape
- Wednesday, Oct. 7; 11:00 am -12:30 pm.
Resilience is “the capacity of a system, enterprise, or person to maintain its core purpose and integrity in the face of dramatically changed circumstances.” (“Why Things Bounce Back”, by Zolli and Healy). In this virtual workshop, participants will explore this definition of resilience, why it’s needed in our lives, and will learn more about how they can better respond to stressors.
Participants will also take a personal look at the identities they hold and how the intersections of those identities impact their ability to be resilient in a way that recognizes and embraces vulnerability. The workshop will provide tools to help faculty deal with stressful moments in their professions to practice their resiliency.
This workshop is part of the conference series for assistant professors, Navigating Academia to Achieve Promotion: You Can Make It Happen! Find more information or register here.
