Focus on Faculty

C/P faculty supported and appreciated

Clinical/Professional/Teaching Faculty and Professors of Practice (C/P faculty) have unique and distinct expertise in teaching, engagement, clinical work, and scholarship that contributes in fundamental ways to the missions of Purdue. Guided by a C/P Faculty Advisory Board and Jennifer Simpson, Provost Fellow for C/P faculty development, several professional development events for C/P faculty were offered over the past year.  The C/P Faculty Advisory Board is an engaged, experienced group of C/P faculty from across Purdue who help guide efforts to support and promote C/P faculty success at Purdue. Be sure to visit the C/P faculty webpage to see your college representative.

The C/P Faculty Town Halls in March 2020 and January 2021 focused on teaching, learning, mentoring, and scholarship of engagement.  The recent April 2021 C/P Faculty Town Hall featured teaching and learning updates from Jenna Rickus, vice provost for teaching and learning, and Heather Servaty-Seib, interim associate vice provost for teaching and learning. An overview of teaching excellence at Purdue was provided by Kim Illingworth Plake, associate professor of pharmacy practice and assistant dean for learning; Lindsey Payne, director of service learning; and Chantal Levesque Bristol, executive director, and David Nelson, associate director – both of the Center for Instructional Excellence. More information about these events, and archived presentations, are available on the Faculty Affairs website. We are looking forward to holding more events for C/P faculty in the next academic year, with the hopes of catalyzing in-person networking.

As we look ahead to the next year and cycle of C/P faculty promotions, all faculty are encouraged to review the updated 2021-22 Academic Year Provost’s Memorandum for promotion of Clinical/Professional faculty. This document is prepared for the purpose of summarizing the policies and procedures that are followed in recommending C/P faculty for promotion to higher academic rank. In addition, individual college procedures and criteria for the promotion of C/P faculty are critically important and should be consulted. To be considered for promotion, a C/P faculty member should have demonstrated excellence in teaching or engagement and related activities, and scholarly productivity in one of those areas. C/P faculty may be nominated for promotion by any member of the Primary Committee or by higher-ranking C/P faculty in their department or school.
