Equity Task Force Update

Earlier this month, the Board of Trustees officially named the Equity Task Force and its ongoing work as one of the university’s Next Moves. With a goal of increasing racial diversity with a larger number of Black Boilermakers on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus, enhancing the quality of their time at Purdue, and supporting the success they enjoy as faculty, staff, students and alumni, Purdue will enact a broad set of initiatives and action plans around representation, experience and success.

Purdue will work to ensure that all members of the university community have the opportunity to experience all that Purdue has to offer – particularly seeking to enhance the experience of Black Boilermakers over the next five years through this initiative. Specific programs, to be led by the Office of the Provost and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion with a campus wide implementation team, will include:

  • Robust recruitment of Black undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff through new program, scholarship and cluster hiring strategies.
  • New and expanded mentoring and community-building initiatives.
  • Enhanced career development opportunities and professional recognition.

All of this activity is aimed at helping Purdue become a leader in attracting and supporting the successes of Black scholars, ultimately improving the experience and lives of the entire Purdue community and beyond.
