an extruder

Small-scale extruder was developed at Purdue University, and installed and tested at the Institut de Technologie Alimentaire (ITA) in Senegal to produce high quality, nutritious cereal-based products. The same type of extruder has now been installed at food processing incubation centers in Niger, Senegal and Kenya, allowing local production of grain-based instant foods such as thick and thin porridges and weaning foods.

Purdue is a major collaborator in the African Post Harvest Loss Information System (APHLIS), which is both a network and project of post-harvest experts in Africa, Europe, and the U.S.

Purdue hosted in January 2016 the initial technical meeting for APHLIS+, a project for the African Post-Harvest loss Information System. The project is led by scientists at the Univ. of Greenwich in the UK, and is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Purdue had 5 of the 25 scientists invited to the meeting, from the US, Africa, Europe, South America, and the Caribbean.
