Africa Post Harvest Loss Information System (APHLIS)

P1010951Purdue is a major collaborator in the African Post Harvest Loss Information System (APHLIS), which is both a network and project of post-harvest experts in Africa, Europe, and the U.S.  Data are fed into an internet-based system that provides estimates of losses, originally focused only on weight loss of cereal grains, but being expanded to include select other crops.  Purdue is playing a key role in this expansion of the APLHIS project to include losses in terms of economics and nutrition value.  Having estimates of losses due to various causes is important to monitor reductions and assess the value of intervention strategies.
