Skype for Business software available for Physical Facilities staff

In an effort to provide more efficient forms of communication and collaboration, Physical Facilities staff have access to Skype for Business, an instant messaging, meeting and screen sharing tool that is part of the University’s Microsoft Office software package. A number of organizations and departments across Purdue already use this tool because of the benefits that it offers.

Skype for Business should already be installed on the majority of desktops and laptops, and first time users will need to activate their Office 365 account before being able to login to the service. To activate your Office 365 account, follow the instructions provided on the ITaP GoldAnswers website. Once your account is activated, you may launch Skype for Business on your work machine with the steps below:

  • Click the Microsoft/start menu icon in the lower-left side of your screen

  • For Windows 7: Choose All Programs, then Microsoft Office 2013, followed by Skype for Business 2015

  • For Windows 10: Choose Microsoft Office 2013, followed by Skype for Business 2015 in the drop-down menu

Once Skype for Business opens, enter your purdue.edu email address and career account password to sign in. From there, you may search for/add contacts or schedule video conference meetings to get started.

In addition to providing access to Skype for Business, the Office 365 account allows users to download Microsoft software, including Word and Excel, at no cost on up to five personal devices while employed at the University. Staff can download the free software from the Office 365 website using their purdue.edu email address and career account password. Additional information about this offer is available through ITaP.

Questions about this service offering may be directed to the ITaP Customer Service Center at (765) 494-4000 or itap@purdue.edu.
