Winter Reminders

The winter season can bring snow, slush, ice and other conditions that may impact parking eligibility. Review the information below to avoid receiving a citation or having your vehicle towed.

License Plates and Parking Enforcement

  • All vehicles, including those in parking garages, should have the state-issued, rear license plate visible to the drive lane at all times for parking enforcement.
  • Vehicles should not be enclosed by car covers.
  • Snow, ice and debris should be regularly removed from the license plate.
  • Vehicles are subject to receiving a parking citation if the license plate is not visible or displayed in the correct fashion.
  • All campus parking locations will be enforced over winter break. Vehicles that are parked without a valid permit will be subject to receiving a citation and may be impounded at the owner’s expense.

Street Parking and Snow Removal

Vehicles that are parked on the street may interfere with campus snow removal activities and should be relocated accordingly when notified by campus officials.

Students who will not be on campus over winter break are asked to remove their vehicles from street parking in advance, following the guidance listed on the Winter Break Vehicle Storage webpage.

If a snow emergency is declared, vehicles that remain parked on streets will be ticketed or towed at the owner’s expense in order to facilitate snow removal.

Purdue and adjacent West Lafayette snow routes and more information are included on the Snow Routes webpage.
