VSTAR for Families
Virtual Student Transition, Advising, and Registration more commonly known as VSTAR is the online version of Purdue's required orientation program for new incoming and transfer students and is designed to ease your student's transition to Purdue. (VSTAR) will be completed in two parts, the first of which opened in Brightspace on May 2, 2022. VSTAR guides students through campus resources and provides information on the course planning process to help students make a strong start at Purdue. Students must complete VSTAR modules prior to meeting with their academic advisor and requesting their fall classes. Students must complete VSTAR Part 1 and complete their academic advisor meeting by June 10 for summer beginners (including Summer Start & Early Start) and by June 24 for fall beginners. Advising appointments can only be made after completing Part 1 of VSTAR, so it is important for students to finish that task as soon as possible.
VSTAR Part 2 is a second online module in Brightspace that will open for summer students on June 1 and for fall beginners on July 1.

After meeting with your academic advisor, students will fill out and submit a Course Request Form (CRF) which will be processed by the Office of the Registrar prior to the start of the upcoming semester.
Upon completion of VSTAR part 1, your student should have received the following:
From: Purdue Academic Advising <acadadvising@purdue.edu>
Sent: upon the completion of VSTAR
To: student's @purdue.edu email address
Subject: Thank you for completing VSTAR, here is what’s next...
If your student is regularly checking their @purdue.edu email, they should have received a communication from their advisors (might look like @boilerconnect.purdue.edu) within about a week of the above message-- they need make sure their @purdue.edu email is not forwarded to gmail or other mail clients – they can check if they are forwarding mail here.
Recommended setting should be selected. If they have done these steps and it has been more than a week since the completion of VSTAR part 1, they will want to respond to the message noted above (notification of completion) and the academic advising team will assist.
In several cases, students have not completed the last part of VSTAR part 1, which is submitting the Student Information Form (SIF), which is the process that triggers an alert to the advising team that the student has completed the necessary tasks and is ready for advising.
On July 21st at 5pm EST, undergraduates will receive notification to their Purdue e-mail indicating their course schedule has been finalized and is available to view. Students can view their final schedule by going to myPurdue > Academics > Detail Schedule.
Parent & Family Connections will be working closely with Orientation Programs to outline campus and community resources covered in VSTAR part 2 - information coming in early June!
