Student Only Sessions

ACADEMIC ADVISING APPOINTMENTS- 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. (locations vary)

  • Academic advising appointments are scheduled throughout the day. Students will receive their academic advising appointment three (3) business days prior to their scheduled STAR date at their email address. Students should be mindful of when their advising appointment is and where it is located (also notated in the email). Also note that this is a student-only experience. During this time guests will be attending interest sessions to learn more about how to support their Boilermaker.

HONORS COLLEGE MEETINGS- 10:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. (choose one time)- Beering (BRNG) 2291

  • Incoming Honors College students will meet with Honors Advisors to gain an overview of the Honors College curriculum, the role of Honors Advisors, leadership
    and involvement opportunities, and much more. Students will also get information on the required first year seminar, HONR 19901 and how to enroll.

HORIZONS- 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Class of 1950, Room 125

  • Horizons Student Support Services is a Federally funded TRIO program. Students may walk in and meet with a staff member to learn more about program eligibility, complete an application, and receive answers to questions.

PURDUE PROMISE/21ST CENTURY SCHOLARS- 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. KRCH, 4th Floor

  • Meet with Purdue Promise staff member to go through their financial aid package, discuss scholarship requirements, and sign their Purdue Promise scholarship

COURSE REGISTRATION- 3:30 (locations vary)

  • Students will register for courses in specific labs. STAR Ambassadors will be outside interest sessions and other areas on campus to assist students in arriving to their lab for registration.


While on campus for STAR, students will have an opportunity to take foreign language placement testing or to test out of COM 114.

  • Foreign Language Placement Testing
- Stanley Coulter Hall (SC) 231, between 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m

    • Placement testing will be offered throughout STAR for French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Spanish and Heritage Spanish. Exams vary in length with Japanese taking approximately 45-60 minutes, and other exams approximately 25-35 minutes. Results will be available at the conclusion of the exam.
  • COM 114 Testing- Beering (BRNG) 1260  (last exam begins at 2:00 p.m.)

    • COM 114 is a basic presentational course that fulfills the University’s Core Oral Communication credit. Credit is awarded to students who successfully pass a written exam and deliver an oral presentation. For specific requirements and a study guide, please visit the College of Liberal Arts website.
