Family Weekend Student Planning Committee - Applications Now Open

As a member of the Family Weekend Student Planning Committee, students serve a key role in planning and executing Family Weekend each fall. This leadership position assists the Parent & Family Connections staff in event coordination, planning, and management as well as provides input for the continuous growth and improvement of Family Weekend.

What is Parent & Family Connections?

Parent & Family Connections at Purdue University engages family members as partners in their student’s educational journey. By providing information, resources, tools, and services, we work together with families to empower students to be successful. As the liaison office for Purdue families, we advocate for the needs of parents and families and assist them in finding the appropriate campus resources and services.

What are the duties of a member of the Family Weekend Student Planning Committee?

The office assists in many facets of the student experience to help ensure families they can support their student in the best way possible. As a member of the Family Weekend Student Planning Committee, you would help to serve families in many avenues. Family Weekend is traditionally an event for parents and families to visit their Boilermaker on campus. This event offers opportunities for families to connect to the University setting in many ways. The Family Weekend Student Planning Committee member’s main roll will be to assist in the planning and execution of Family Weekend. Committee members may also assist in planning of additional events, communication management, and provide support to both new and current families. Although this is an unpaid position, it is a great leadership opportunity and resume builder. 

Goals of the Position:

  • To communicate the mission of the Parent & Family Connections office.
  • To assist in planning and implementation of Family Weekend annually.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Sever as an ambassador for Parent & Family Connections programming and a representative of Purdue University
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of Family Weekend as well as working Family Weekend
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to parents, families, and students

Position Requirements:

  • Have been enrolled at the University a minimum of one semester prior to starting the position
  • Enrolled as a full time undergraduate student throughout the duration of the position
  • Good academic standing
  • Good conduct standing

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in event planning
  • Strong communication skills
  • Previous experience working with teams; strong teamwork
