Your student has decided on Purdue and you're probably thinking, "What's next?"
It's now time, if they haven't already, to register for STAR.

STAR is a one-day event held on Purdue's West Lafayette campus for new undergraduate students to receive academic advice, prioritize their Fall 2019 course selection and get to know other incoming Purdue students. STAR is required for fall incoming domestic students. If your student is unable to attend STAR, they must request an exception through their myPurdue portal.

Note that all STAR participants should plan to be on Purdue's campus from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time during their STAR session. Upon arrival, please park in the North Stadium Lot at Ross Ade Stadium. Shuttles will pick up every 10 minutes to transport you to your check-in location, which varies depending on your STAR date.

Students register for STAR via their online myPurdue portal. International students will be enrolled in Virtual STAR (VSTAR) for an online orientation experience.

As students prepare for their transition to Purdue, please be mindful of the following items:

It is imperative that students have the ability to independently access the university’s online systems by using their career account username and password. Students who have been logging in to their Purdue email and completing action items on the New Student Task List in myPurdue will be well-positioned for success throughout their Purdue experience.

Students experiencing issues logging in to myPurdue or other online systems associated with the university should contact the ITaP Customer Service Center (CSC) at 765-494-4000 and press option 5. The CSC is Purdue’s central service desk for requesting IT-related assistance or information. The CSC can also assist students with technology questions about email, Blackboard, and more.
STAR Parent & Family Experience
We want you to feel as welcome on campus as your student! Up to two guests per student may attend STAR with their Boilermaker. After students register for their STAR date, they will be able to register their guests.

Guests will be able to attend a majority of the day with their student, including the University and college welcomes, most interest sessions and lunch. Although most interest sessions will be offered twice during the day, students and their guests are encouraged to split up and attend separate sessions to maximize their time on campus.

While guests will have the option to spend a majority of the day with their Boilermaker, please be mindful there are some student only experiences that include (but are not limited to) academic advising appointments, band auditions, and testing.

After students finish in the lab they can reconnect with their guests at the information fair in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC).
STAR Helpful Tips
  • Wear comfortable shoes — there will be a lot of walking.
  • Check weather updates for West Lafayette, Indiana (pack an umbrella just in case).
  • As with most areas, spring brings a number of road projects throughout the  Lafayette/West Lafayette area. For the most current information about alternative routes visit the INDOT website.
  • Make sure your student reviews the STAR checklist before your visit and be prepared for a great day.
  • Review the STAR schedule: Download the PurdueGuide app from the Google Play store or the Apple app store. The app will provide an electronic schedule of STAR sessions.
    • After downloading the PurdueGuide app, select the "Campus" tab in the lower right corner and tap "Find Guides"
    • Select the STAR guide that correlates with your visit date and tap "Add Guide".
