Purdue Academic Advising Association (PACADA)

Welcome to the Purdue Academic Advising Association (PACADA). We are proud to be one of the oldest NACADA, The Global Community for Academic Advising, allied organizations.

Our goal at PACADA is to:

1. Promote the highest quality Academic Advising at Purdue University

2. Create professional development opportunities for advisors and other Purdue Staff

3. Act as an advocate for advising professionals at Purdue University

As we transition out of a global pandemic and into a new normal with remote and in-person advising, our organization plays a crucial role in what advising will look like at Purdue going forward. Advisors are the first point of contact for most students and their families; we are their go-to resource for all things “Purdue.” Our knowledge, expertise, and compassion are often what keeps students successful at Purdue. This is why it becomes so important for our organization to continue to offer professional development opportunities that will increase and expand our knowledge base to include everything from policies and procedures to inclusive advising strategies. We need to serve all of our students from a place of respect and care for their well-being both personally and academically.

This year, I hope to continue the success of PACADA and grow the organization. Advisors on this campus are amazing and I hope that, as an organization, we can support and encourage you to get out on the local, regional, and national stage to showcase your skills and best practices. PACADA continues to support the mission of Purdue’s Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging by creating and sustaining a welcoming campus where students can excel, increasing and retaining historically underrepresented and diverse students and staff, and preparing students to thrive in our diverse, global environment. Finally, during the pandemic, there was substantial focus on self-care for advisors. Just because the pandemic is hopefully coming to a close, it does not mean that we should end our focus on self-care. We have to remember to take care of ourselves and self-care is not selfish.

At PACADA, we are not just Academic Advisors, our membership currently includes individuals from orientation, admissions, counseling, financial aid, wellness, the Registrar, Student Success, the Dean of Students, and many others.

We are thrilled to have you join our organization and attend events. An easy way to get involved is to join one of our 5 committees, just click Committees (please hyperlink) at the top to get started.

This is going to be an awesome year!

Yours truly,

Tiffany Stergar, Senior Academic Advisor
