VSTAR Timeline

This content was last updated on June 19th

All incoming undergraduate students for the 2020 summer and fall terms must complete VSTAR. VSTAR stands for Virtual Summer Transition, Advising and Registration. VSTAR will help all incoming students connect with faculty, staff and current students. It also will connect incoming students to campus culture, resources and advising throughout the summer.

VSTAR Live Sessions

VSTAR Live sessions will take place regularly throughout the summer to supplement VSTAR. We encourage you to view these as often as you can, but it is not required. You can watch live and recorded sessions on Facebook, YouTube, or our VSTAR Live Sessions website. Help us improve future offerings by sharing your feedback! This feedback form will be available on our VSTAR Live Sessions page all summer.

VSTAR Begins

May 11th

The first thing you need to know is that VSTAR opens on May 11. This is the date that all incoming students gain access to the VSTAR modules in Brightspace. Brightspace is the online system Purdue uses to deliver course content. There is no need to register for VSTAR. Purdue will enroll you in VSTAR once you have accepted your offer of admission and paid your deposit.

It’s all right if you can’t log in on May 11, and you don’t have to complete the modules in one sitting. The system will save your progress as you explore each VSTAR section, so you can review content at your own pace. Make sure you finish before July 10, which is when VSTAR concludes.

Connect with your Academic Advisor

After completing VSTAR - Must be completed before July 10th

Once you have read through all the VSTAR sections, you’ll fill out an electronic form. This serves as your certificate of VSTAR completion. By completing this form, you will alert your college that you are ready to meet with an academic advisor.

It’s important to note that the academic advising timeline varies by academic college. Approximate advising timelines are on the academic advising website below. Your academic advisor will send you an email to your Purdue account to set up a time for your virtual advising appointment, so please continue to check your email regularly.

Register for Classes for the Fall Semester

During or after meeting with advisor

After your advising appointment, you’ll receive instructions to rank your course selections. Again, you’ll hear more about this from your academic advisor. Rest assured, you'll have the same opportunity for course space regardless of when you complete the steps above.

Purdue Announces Fall Schedules

July 23rd

Purdue uses a batch course registration system. This means that all classes get scheduled at once. We use an algorithm to optimize schedules and reduce conflicts. This is important because it means all students have equitable access to available courses. There is no course-related advantage to completing VSTAR early.
