What is VSTAR?

Virtual STAR (VSTAR) is our required, two-part online orientation program for all new undergraduate students. This program takes place in  Brightspace, a system where you will see all of your course information each semester.

VSTAR Part 1

VSTAR Part 1 officially begins your orientation experience. This self-guided orientation module is located online in Brightspace . To access VSTAR Part 1, select "VSTAR 2022 - Part 1" from your list of Brightspace courses, and begin. Please contact  studentsuccess@purdue.edu  if you have any questions. Access to this section  begins on May 2 for all VSTAR students. You must complete this online module, which focuses on preparing you for academic experience at Purdue. Students are highly encouraged to finish VSTAR Part 1 as soon as possible:  June 10 for Summer Start and Early Start students, and June 24 for all students starting in the fall.

Fully completing VSTAR Part 1 opens access to scheduling your academic advising appointment. Once you have finished the online modules in VSTAR Part 1, an academic advisor will send an introductory email with directions on how to schedule your first advising appointment. Meeting with your advisor is an important step in your Boilermaker journey. One of the things you will do in this appointment is talk through course options and how to register for your first semester of classes. Be on the lookout for that message in your Purdue email account for further instruction.

VSTAR Part 2

VSTAR Part 2 continues the orientation process, and is designed to further prepare you for experiencing Purdue first-hand. Access to this section begins June 1 for Summer Start and Early Start students and July 1 for all students starting in the fall. All incoming undergraduate students are expected to complete VSTAR Part 2 before starting their first semester. To access VSTAR Part 2, log into Brightspace, select "VSTAR 2022 - Part 2" from your list of courses, and begin. Please contact studentsuccess@purdue.edu if you have any questions.

Enrolling in VSTAR

Students are automatically enrolled in VSTAR after they accept their offer of admission. You can complete VSTAR at any pace, but you must complete it to meet with your academic advisor. Once completed, students will be prompted to fill out their Student Information Form (SIF) which will alert an academic advisor to the student’s VSTAR completion. Academic Advisors will then reach out to students with availability to set up a virtual advising appointment, where they will work with students to preference their fall courses. Advising appointments will begin as early as May 9 depending on the college/school determination. Academic Advisors will not be available for appointments or communications from July 18- July 22. Make sure to schedule your appointment from numerous weeks of availability as soon as possible to secure your time accordingly.
