Orientation updates and announcements; learn more about virtual and on-campus orientation opportunities for spring beginners.
Orientation Programs partners,

We wanted to share a few quick updates related to orientation programming for new and transfer students who will begin their Purdue experience in January 2022.

As in recent years, all new undergraduate students are required to complete  VSTAR , which is hosted in Brightspace. VSTAR guides students through campus resources and connects them to their academic advisor. Once students complete VSTAR, they will work with their advisor to plan their first-semester courses so they can make a strong start at Purdue!

VSTAR opened on  Oct. 18, 2021,  and will be accessible for all students who have accepted their offer of admission for the spring term. Students are automatically enrolled into the Brightspace course and at no cost. Students are advised to complete VSTAR and meet with their academic advisor as early as possible, although they do not have to complete the VSTAR modules in a single sitting.

All new and transfer students starting in the spring semester will be invited to participate in the second annual offering of  Boiler Cold Rush (BCR)

BCR takes place on Jan. 7 and 8, 2022, the weekend before spring classes begin, and we encourage all new students to sign up!

Students who participate in BCR will:
  • Learn about campus traditions, Purdue culture and university resources.
  • Connect with other new students beginning in January.
  • Learn how to be a successful Boilermaker while gaining direct guidance from current Purdue students.
Transfer students will be placed in small groups with other new transfer students to connect throughout the program.

There is a  $150 fee to participate in BCR for students living on campus, and a $200 fee to participate for those living off campus. Fee waivers are available through an application process for students with financial hardships.

BCR registration and the waiver application opened on  Oct. 18, 2021, on students' New Student Task List in their myPurdue portal. More information about BCR will be emailed to students in the coming weeks.

An email will be sent to students who have accepted their offer of admission for the Spring 2022 term on or before Thursday, Oct. 28, informing them of their options for orientation. All email communications sent to these students can be found on the Orientation Updates page on our website. Additionally, students will find information related to these programs on their New Student Task List in myPurdue.

At this time, there is not a formal decision for what the summer orientation experience will look like for summer and fall new beginners and transfer students in 2022. Boiler Gold Rush (BGR) and Boiler Gold Rush International (BGRi) will occur in August 2022. When dates and timelines are finalized, we will share them broadly with the campus community.
