Dear Boilermaker,
You now have access to your online Purdue orientation program – called VSTAR. VSTAR stands for Virtual Student Transition, Advising, and Registration and is the first step of the orientation summer experience. This program is required for all incoming students, both new first-year students and new transfer students. VSTAR is presented in two parts:
- VSTAR Part 1 will focus on academic resources and connect you with your academic advisor to plan your courses. The last step in VSTAR Part 1 will be to complete your Student Information Form (SIF). This form notifies your advisor that you've completed Part 1, and they will connect with you via your Purdue email, so please continue to check your email regularly. Appointments are important to planning your courses and can take place virtually via video chat, email, or over the phone.
- VSTAR Part 2 will focus on campus resources to support your transition to campus life.
You must complete VSTAR Part 1 before you can schedule a meeting and meet with your academic advisor. Students beginning classes in the fall must complete the VSTAR Part 1 Brightspace module by June 24, 2022. Academic advising timelines vary by academic college. Students are highly encouraged to meet with their academic advisor as soon as possible after completing the VSTAR Part 1 module. You can find additional details and a VSTAR timeline on the Orientation Programs website. Watch the short video below to learn more about VSTAR Part 1.
How do I access VSTAR?
Students will log in to Purdue’s Brightspace learning management system to complete the VSTAR modules. Click here to access Brightspace, and click the “Purdue University – West Lafayette” section. From there you can log in with your Purdue Career Account information. Brightspace can also be accessed through the Pulse App, which can be downloaded on the App Store or Google Play.
If you need help logging in to any Purdue systems, or general Purdue IT help, please review Purdue's IT web page for new students. Students can get help by calling Information Technology at Purdue (ITaP) at 765-494-4000.
