Virtual STAR

Virtual Summer Transition, Advising and Registration (VSTAR) is Purdue's online version of STAR. International undergraduate students and those who have been granted an exception for STAR will take part in VSTAR. VSTAR guides students through campus resources and provides information on fall course planning.

The Process:

Purdue automatically enrolls eligible students (international students and STAR exceptions) after they have confirmed Purdue attendance and paid their deposit. Those enrolled will receive an email message on how to access and complete this course.

Step 1: After receiving email instructions on how to access and complete VSTAR, log on and complete the VSTAR course. Within VSTAR you will:

  • Learn about the course planning system and other academic resources around campus
  • Learn more about what your academic college has to offer
  • Receive guidance on how to communicate with your academic advisor
  • Learn about how to make Purdue your new home

Step 2: Plan your fall courses. Once your course planning access period begins (this information will come from your academic advisor after you've completed VSTAR), visit the myPurdue portal and plan your courses for your first semester via the course planning system.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Students have the greatest responsibility during this process because they indicate preference for their own fall courses. Each student will be assigned an academic advisor; while your advisor will provide guidance, YOU will be the one to select courses and organize them by preference. You will receive contact information for your advisor after completing VSTAR.
