{"id":5994,"date":"2026-09-23T15:44:59","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T15:44:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/operations\/?p=5994"},"modified":"2026-09-23T15:45:00","modified_gmt":"2026-09-23T15:45:00","slug":"fall-semester-purduealert-tests-scheduled-for-west-lafayette-and-indianapolis-sept-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/operations\/blog\/2026\/09\/23\/fall-semester-purduealert-tests-scheduled-for-west-lafayette-and-indianapolis-sept-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Fall semester PurdueALERT tests scheduled for West Lafayette and Indianapolis Sept. 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"modal-ready\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fall semester tests of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/operations\/emergency-preparedness\/purdue-alert\/\">PurdueALERT emergency warning notification system<\/a> are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29 with the West Lafayette test set for 10 a.m. and Indianapolis scheduled for 10:15 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>West Lafayette<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the test in West Lafayette, the campus all-hazards outdoor emergency warning sirens will be activated, weather permitting. The test of the sirens will help campus community members know what to listen for during a potential emergency. In an actual emergency, the sirens indicate to immediately seek shelter in the nearest building and gather more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The test in West Lafayette will also include text messaging, email, X updates (@PurdueALERT), digital signs, desktop pop-up alerts and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/emergency\/\">Campus Emergency Status webpage<\/a> updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Indianapolis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Indianapolis, the PurdueALERT test will include text messaging, email, desktop-pop-ups, X updates (@PurdueALERT) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/emergency\/\">Campus Emergency Status webpage<\/a> updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Purdue Polytechnic Institute Locations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A test for CampusALERT will also be conducted at all Purdue Polytechnic Institute locations at 10:30 a.m. The test will include an email to all campus community members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cA new academic year is an opportunity to ensure our campus communities are prepared to respond in an emergency,\u201d said Jefferson Howells, director of Emergency Preparedness. \u201cWhile the U.S. Department of Education requires us to test our emergency systems at least once a year, we go a step further by conducting tests during both the fall and spring semesters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All students, faculty and staff at both locations are encouraged to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/securepurdue\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sign up<\/a> for emergency text message notifications. Up to three numbers may be registered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emergency Preparedness is part of Administrative Operations.
