Student myPurdue access, step by step

The process by which new students gain access to myPurdue and other online services involves several steps:

1. Student accepted for admission: Once accepted, a Purdue Career Account is created for each new student.
2. Offer letter sent: Purdue mails a (paper) letter to the student indicating that he or she has been accepted to the University. The letter contains the student's Purdue Identification number (PUID) and initial account setup password, both of which will be needed to activate a Purdue Career Account.

3. Activate account: To activate the account, the student should click on the Activate your online student career account link on the Undergraduate Admissions Web site and follow the activation steps. The PUID and initial account setup password from the offer letter will be entered here.

Once each step has been completed and the account is activated, the student needs to set a password for it and configure his or her Purdue e-mail service. (Students use their Career Account usernames and passwords to access various Purdue online services, including their Purdue e-mail and the myPurdue portal.)

More information on activating student Career Accounts is available here.

4. Log in to myPurdue: Using the Career Account username and password chosen in Step 3, the student can then log in to myPurdue at

5. Accept offer of admission: The first myPurdue screen a new student sees will be the New Student tab. Before doing anything else, he or she must click the Accept Your Offer of Admission link.

After accepting, the student will be routed to Purdue’s TouchNet screen to pay the $100 deposit (unless it has been waived).

6. Other myPurdue options activated: When the student returns to myPurdue, a check will appear next to the Accept Your Offer of Admission link. Other links under the New Student tab also will be active, and the student can then register for STAR (Summer Transition, Advising and Registration, formerly known as Day on Campus), Boiler Gold Rush and apply for housing and Purdue scholarships. Freshmen will be able to submit an application to join a learning community.

Over the course of the spring, other tabs will appear to students, including Home, Academic, Financial and Student Life. (Click these links to see examples.) Additional access to myPurdue will depend on what “roles” they may have with the University. For example, if a student also is an instructor, a Faculty tab will appear. The New Student tab should disappear around the beginning of the student’s first classes.

Students will receive registration PINs when meeting with their advisors during STAR so they can later schedule their fall classes online. (A new PIN is required for each semester’s registration.)

Although rare, there are times when a Career Account may need to be reset to its original, default setup. (This can occur if a student has problems accessing myPurdue after his or her account has been activated the first time.) Therefore, all new students should keep their offer letters until they have finished registering for classes.

Additional information about access to online services at Purdue is available on the SecurePurdue Web site.
