Research Data Analyst - West Lafayette - Office of Institutional Research, Assessment & Effectiveness (Job Number: 1702079)


As Research Data Analyst, you will provide data analysis and database construction of elements relevant to the effectiveness of Purdue in student success, faculty activity, and resource management.  You will use your expertise to conduct research to inform decision-making by senior level administration. You will also perform data extraction, information analysis, and research report tasks to provide institutional information to internal and external constituents including federal and state agencies. Additionally, you will collaborate on data research and business intelligence projects with Data Scientists in the department.



  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 years of experience in data analysis, predictive modeling or data mining.
  • In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
  • Skills in a statistical software packages such as MATLAB, SAS, SPSS, or R. 
  • Ability to work with large data sets.
  • Database build and maintenance expertise.
  • Effective interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to communicate with senior level administrators, faculty, staff and IT professionals.
  • Ability to treat confidential data with discretion.
  • Ability to work in a continuous quality improvement environment.


  • Degree in statistics, analytics, math, computer science, behavioral or social sciences, information technology, or higher education related fields.
  • Experience with large dataset or data warehouses, particularly within higher education finance data.
  • Experience with relational databases and COGNOS or similar SQL based data query tools.
  • Background in business intelligence.
  • Skills in programming languages such as Python, C++, C#, SQL.
