Celebrating 150 years of Purdue engineering excellence<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s Purdue engineering students will change the world, as their predecessors have done for the last 150 years. Starting with a kickoff event Sept. 13, the university will acknowledge its engineering sesquicentennial with a yearlong celebration packed with special events<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Boilers to Mars\u2019 short film debuts<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What will it take to go first? Watch \u201cBoilers to Mars,\u201d Purdue\u2019s first-of-its-kind short film. Designated as the Cradle of Astronauts, Purdue has 27 alumni who have traveled to space. Chances are, when humankind makes its way to Mars, a Boilermaker will be in the lead. As an instigator of progress and a place for adventurers, scientists, dreamers and doers, the university imagines #TheNextGiantLeap<\/a> in \u201cBoilers to Mars.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partnerships with Malaysian universities focus on AI, data science<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Purdue University continues to expand its international horizons by signing partnerships with several Malaysian universities focusing on artificial intelligence and data science. Dimitrios Peroulis, Purdue\u2019s senior vice president for partnerships and online, joined education representatives from the Malaysian government, academia and industry in signing memorandums of understanding, or MOUs, laying out goals to create impactful and economically viable educational content and opportunities. The MOUs\u2019 primary objective is to extend Purdue\u2019s land-grant mission internationally by developing new online programs in the rapidly expanding areas of AI and data science, thereby expanding new educational programs and fostering new research work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Purdue, Argonne sign MOU to collaborate on chips, quantum and other key research areas<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Leaders from Purdue University and the U.S. Department of Energy\u2019s Argonne National Laboratory on Monday (Sept. 9) signed a memorandum of understanding to promote collaborative research between Purdue and Argonne in areas of common scientific and technical interest. Those areas include microelectronics, quantum information science, materials science, nuclear science and engineering, computing, and energy storage materials and recycling. The signing took place in advance of a full-day conference on Purdue\u2019s campus hosted by the Council of Competitiveness that convened leaders from academia, industry and government to continue to advance innovation in chips, qubits and molecules in the Indiana-Illinois Innovation Corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AP video \u2014 Fall lawn care tips for healthy grass<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cale Bigelow, a turf grass scientist and professor in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture in Purdue University\u2019s College of Agriculture, shares the best practices for fall lawn care and how to mow, feed and water your grass. Bigelow says lawns should be cut to around 3 inches, and clippings should be recycled back into the lawn for extra nutrients. For fertilizer, Bigelow recommends following the \u201choliday plan\u201d of feeding your lawn around Labor Day and Halloween.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
